Ben Vorlich, Loch Earn, 1 September 2002

This is it, the big number 10. Ben Vorlich was being saved for this round's compleation, since it was effectively my home munro. My parents stay at Lochearnhead and the hill is only a few miles up the narrow road.

After a slight bump on the Comrie-Lochearnhead road in Gordon's car (where a car reversed around a blind corner into us - but that's another story), we arrived at Ardvorlich and squeezed the cars into what gaps were left by the lochside.

Seven of us and two dogs headed up the farm-track to the bridge. The awful trudge through the peat-bog from the bridge has long since been replaced by a well constructed path. Mum could no longer use the bog as an excuse for not heading out onto this hill. A bit of brother rivalry saw myself and Marc sweat it out for a quick jog part of the way to the top. However we all arrived on the summit more or less together, meeting more of the gang who'd decided to bag Stuc a'Chroin on their way. Their timing was just perfect !

Getting your first round of munros is a high. Additional compleations don't quite match the first. But there's something special about a tenth round. On top of that, I'd now equalled the record for the most rounds of munros. I was on a high, then out came the champagne and whiskey ! Keith then brightened an overcast day by presenting everyone with Persil-white t-shirts and baseball hats emblazened with the logo similar to that at the top of this page.

On the route down, the baseball hats must have amused the other hillwalkers who gave us some funny looks. Of course we had to tell them what was going on !

Many thanks to all who turned up - you made a very special day !

Special thanks to Maureen Jackson for the photos.

Extra special thanks to Keith for the t-shirts, baseball hats, mugs,......
