Munro Compleation 13 - 16 July 2006
An easy scramble
The Glamaig Hill Race took place in glorious weather on the Saturday, a mad
race up and down Glamaig from the Sligachan Hotel. In the race I went over
badly on my ankle at the start of the scree descent. This would probably extend
today's walk by a couple of hours.
Today's conditions were not quite as hot as yesterday, but just right for
scrambling over Cuillin rock, Clear hazy skies, with just a hint of a breeze.
Cassie, our dog, is getting on a bit, so Keith decided to walk with her for a
mile or so and not up to the ridge. The path from the campsite is now
much improved, and continues to the turn into Coir a'Ghrunnda. On previous
jaunts into Coir a'Ghrunnda, I'd been dive-bombed by a persistant seagull,
guarding its partner nesting on the island in the lochan. But not today.
The coire was still, eerily so. Only one person was here, lying,
sleeping by the lochan.
An easy scramble over very abrasive volcanic rock took me to Sgurr Dubh Beag. The short scramble to Sgurr Dubh Mor is becoming familiar, to the point I know the easiest sections to take. I'm a scardy when it comes to heights ! Back up Sgurr Dubh Beag, around the knoll on the left, then up Sgurr nan Eag, probably the easiest munro on Skye. Still great views, but camera batteries died, just as well phones come with cameras as standard. No-one else around at all, not even on the other peaks. I hung around for a while, quite strange to do your last munro on your own. Keith and Cassie met me back at the foot of Coire Lagan and we headed back to the 'Slig' before heading down the road.
Time taken : 5:45hr
Ascent : 4,450ft
