Keith's Munro Compleation - Mullach an Rathain 21
April 2003
Two and a half years to do a first round - pretty good going !

When your
partner is a mad munro bagger, what do you do ? You can let them get on with
it, or join them in their passion. Keith took the latter descision and just two
and a half years after our first jaunt up Schiehallion it was time to compleat
his munro round. Liathach had been saved to the end. Not just because of its
stature, setting or scrambly Am Fasarinen Pinnacles, but also for its
pronounciation. "Lee-a-doch" is what Keith likes to call it !
Keith, Cassie (the dog) and me set off in fine weather from the usual start
point, near the burn to the east of Glen Cottage. It's a sweaty haul up the
into the corrie, but the burn coming down is an excellent source of
refreshment. It's also entertainment when you've got a dog that's mad for
playing in water. Hands out of pockets and some effort up the steep ground got
us onto the ridge. West, over the first top and onto Keith's penultimate,
Spidean a'Choire Leith. Perfect conditions !
The weather was closing in from the east today, Beinn Eighe already had its
summits in cloud, so we didn't hang around too long. We took the by-pass path
around the Am Fasarinen Pinnacles since Cassie was with us. You still have to
keep your wits about you on this. We could see the cloud starting to come in
and lick Spidean a'Choire Leith - were we going to make it to Mullach an
Rathain and get a decent photo ?

A
spurt was put on and we made it just. The photo tells it all - a happy man and
his up-for-it dog. After a wee celebebration it was time to get down before the
cloud engulfed us.
Cassie managed to complete around 260 of the 284 munros.
Keith's Munroist's number is 2924.
