Torridon is famed for its towering giants - Beinn Alligin, Liathach, and Beinn Eighe - but it also harbours a number of quieter, lesser-known hills that, while more modest in stature, have plenty of character. An Ruadh-mheallan is one such hill, standing just west of imposing Beinn Alligin.
Rugged and 'pap'-shaped, it rises above a wild landscape scattered with lochans and rocky knolls. Though small, its summit offers surprisingly fine views, with sweeping outlooks across Loch Torridon and westward toward the Inner Hebrides.
The most direct access to An Ruadh-mheallan is via the minor road from Torridon village to Diabaig. This scenic route climbs to around 250m, from where an undulating, pathless hike begins. Heading over rough grass and heather, the route ascends the southern slopes of the hill, making for a short but rewarding outing.
