An Socach is a quiet Munro summit rising above Glen Affric, where grassy slopes lead to a rounded crest set between the higher peaks of Sgùrr nan Ceathreamhnan and Màm Sodhail.
Most walkers reach An Socach from the remote Glen Affric Hostel, where a stalkers’ path climbs onto the ridge west of the summit before a gentle hike leads to the cairn. Another stalkers’ path rises from Glen Affric to the bealach north-east of the hill, giving an alternative approach. An Socach is usually climbed with Sgùrr nan Ceathreamhnan; many parties also include Mullach na Dheiragain, while strong parties—perhaps backpacking over a couple of days or hillrunning—link these and several other Munros on the very demanding Mullardoch Munros circuit.
