Beinn a' Chaisgein Beag

Beinn a' Chaisgein Beag is a domed Fiona/Graham hill hidden away in a remote corner of the Fisherfield wilderness overlooking the northern shores of Fionn Loch.

The summit area is broad and grass-covered, with a small cairn marking the highest point and a stone trig pillar standing nearby. Just east of the summit sits a curious stone circle, with a line of white pebbles cutting through it and another fainter darker line pointing roughly northwards. The finest views are gained by wandering a short distance from the summit cairn, particularly for the outlook over Fionn Loch towards Beinn Àirigh Chàrr and neighbouring peaks.

On its own, Beinn a' Chaisgein Beag is best approached from Inchina near Loch Gruinard, following an estate track - suitable for cycling - down Srath na Sealga before hiking on stalkers' paths towards the summit. On route, unusual rock formations below Creag na Sgoinne add interest to the approach, with erratic boulders and embedded rocks scattered across the otherwise heather-clad slopes.

For those backpacking and staying near Carnmore, Beinn a' Chaisgein Beag can also be combined with neighbouring Beinn a' Chaisgein Mòr. The terrain between the two hills is mostly gentle and grass-covered, while a stalkers' path can be used on the return towards Carnmore.
