Beinn Bhreac, Inverlael

Beinn Bhreac is a broad, gently rising hill standing above the eastern shore of Loch Broom and forming the highest point of the moorland south-east of Ullapool. Its slopes are largely heather-clad, giving the hill a rounded and understated profile when seen from a distance. Near the summit, a sizeable lochan lies just west of the cairn, adding interest to what is otherwise an expansive, open top.

Despite its modest height, Beinn Bhreac offers extensive views. Coigach and Assynt dominate the northern skyline, while Ben Klibreck is seen to fine effect to the north-east.

The easiest and most practical approach is from Inverlael, where forestry and estate tracks lead to within around 2km of the summit. From the end of the tracks, the final ascent is made across pathless heather moorland, giving a quiet and remote feel to the upper section of the hill.
