Beinn Challuim (Ben Challum)

As seen rising above Strath Fillan, Beinn Challuim's southern slopes give the mountain the appearance of a broad, grassy hill without much character.

The mountain presents a more interesting side away from these gentler flanks. Its rugged northern face falls steeply, while the eastern side is more intricate, displaying the ridge linking its two summits above a coire. The broad southern top is particularly curious, where the crest divides into separate lines separated by steep ground. In mist, this area could prove confusing were it not for the presence of a well-worn path.

A large cairn stands on the main summit, from where extensive views stretch across the Southern Highlands, taking in nearby peaks around Glen Lochay, Ben Lui and the Crianlarich hills.

Beinn Challuim is most easily approached from near Tyndrum, where a worn path and line of old fence-posts lead up its southern shoulder, though the terrain involves a fairly long trudge over undulating grassy slopes. More varied approaches can be made from Glen Lochay to the east, allowing the mountain to be combined with neighbouring Munros and Corbetts in longer and more rewarding circuits.

Older maps recorded the mountain's name as 'Ben Challum', though this is regarded as a slight anglicisation of the Gaelic.
