Standing between Ben Hee and Càrn an Tionail, Beinn Direach rises with its lower neighbour above the lochs beneath Ben Hee's rugged northern side. Alongside these lochs runs a track, possibly following the line of an old drove road.

The hills themselves are largely grass-covered, giving relatively straightforward ground underfoot, though both present a more rugged character to the north. Beinn Direach in particular has a rocky northern face rising above Coire Granda, which drops steeply towards Glen Golly.

From the roadside along Loch Merkland, Beinn Direach is almost entirely hidden, with Meall a' Chlèirich itself only briefly glimpsed, and Beinn Direach only just visible beyond.
