Beinn Mhòr, South Uist

Beinn Mhòr is the highest point on South Uist, its summit ridge crowns a rugged chain of peaks. From the top, vast views extend west over lochans, machair, and beaches to the Atlantic, while eastward lie the outlines of Skye and the mainland Highlands.

With no eastern road access, all approaches come from the west. For Beinn Mhòr alone, the quickest line begins near Loch Aineort, crossing moor and heather to the summit ridge. A longer, classic route links Beinn Mhòr with Beinn Choradail and Hecla, starting near Howmore and making a fine round of the three peaks.
