Rising between the Cromarty and Dornoch Firths, Beinn Tharsuinn is the highest of the surrounding rolling hills. Flanked by two wind farms, the hill's shape and structure alone might suggest a rather uninspiring ascent. However, an estate track on its western flank allows for quick progress, leading to the hill's broad crest where the views open up dramatically across the Highlands.
On dry days, the intricate network of peat hags near the summit provides unexpectedly enjoyable underfoot conditions, making the traverse between the southern and northern tops a pleasure. Once away from the influence of the wind farms, the terrain becomes pathless and remote, offering a sense of solitude and requiring good navigation skills across the open, higher ground.
