Ben More Coigach (or Beinn Mhòr na Còigich) is the highest point on a long and rugged ridge that dominates the Coigach peninsula. Its southern face, seen clearly from the A835 near Ullapool, is especially striking — a three-kilometre wall of sandstone cliffs and buttresses. By contrast, the northern slopes are more forgiving, with grass and scree offering easier approaches.

The ridge carries seven distinct summits, including the sharp peak of Sgùrr an Fhidhleir. Ben More Coigach itself is the loftiest of the group, and from its spacious crest the views are vast: north to Assynt’s isolated peaks, west over the Summer Isles, and east across Inverpolly’s lochs and moors.

Ben More Coigach is best climbed on a circular route starting from the road end beyond Achiltibuie. The circuit takes in minor tops before ascending Sgùrr an Fhidhleir and continuing along the long ridge to Ben More Coigach’s summit, with options to include other peaks along the way.
