Overlooking the southern end of Loch Ness, Càrn a' Chuilinn is an isolated grass-covered hill in a fairly remote setting.

Approaches are in the main from the B862 above Loch Ness, with fine estate tracks heading in from Glen Tarff and Glen Doe.
