In the remote Freevater wilderness, Carn Ban sits alone, miles away from roadside. Carn Ban is heather clad on its lower slopes with a grass covered wide plateau crest.
Being a very remote hill, several route options can be found when pouring over maps. Most people will probably opt for a cycle along the estate roads that begin from Black Bridge near Aultguish Inn. A finer route which starts from Alladale Estate also follows estate roads and tracks. Another possibility would be to approach from Bridge of Oykel and combine Carn Ban with Seana Bhraigh into an epic high-level circular route.
