The line of the Ladder Hills travel south-west to north-east, standing between Glen Livet and Strathdon. Càrn Mòr is the highest point on this range of tops and overlooks The Scalan and Chapeltown in the Braes of Glenlivet below.

There are various options for tackling this hill, and with Càrn Mòr's summit being just over 150m above the Lecht Ski Centre, most people will head up the hill from here. This will leave plenty of time for more hillwalking in a day, perhaps to Càrn Ealasaid on the opposite side of The Lecht.

A far more interesting route up Càrn Mòr begins from Glen Livet, where a visit to discover past lives at 'The Scalan' and the ruins at Clash of Scalan are highly recommended.
