Located in the Manor Hills of the Southern Uplands, Cramalt Craig is one of the higher summits in the Scottish Borders. The hill features broad, rolling slopes largely covered in grass and heather, typical of the range.
Although it was once included in the Corbett list, later surveying revealed insufficient prominence (drop) between it and Broad Law, leading to its removal. However, it retains its place in the list of Donalds, a classification of hills in the Southern Uplands over 2000 feet (610 metres).
The summit is reached where a fence-line sharply changes direction, forming a junction between the ridges leading from Broad Law to the southwest and Dollar Law to the northeast. This topographical feature makes it a convenient point on extended ridge walks in the area.
Cramalt Craig is typically climbed in conjunction with neighbouring hills such as Broad Law or Dollar Law. The most direct ascent is from the southern side, beginning near the Megget Reservoir, where rough tracks provide a starting point into the higher ground.
