Situated in the Manor Hills of the Southern Uplands, Dollar Law lies between the Manor Valley to the east and the upper reaches of the River Tweed to the west. It is one of the higher hills in the Scottish Borders, though the drop between it and nearby higher Cramalt Craig is a mere 70 metres.

Dollar Law's broad, rolling crest is typical of the Southern Uplands, with slopes cloaked in grass and heather, though its north-eastern face rises above dense forestry plantations in Manor Valley.

Due to its position among several other rounded hills - such as Broad Law and Greenside Law - Dollar Law is rarely climbed in isolation. Often included in a round of nearby summits, the most direct ascent up Dollar Law is from the end of the public road in Manor Valley. The summit is marked by a trig point, set by a rather crumbling wall and the intersection of a fence-line, making it easy to identify.
