Fuar Tholl from Sgorr Ruadh

Fuar Tholl

Distinctive Corbett peak at head of Strath Carron

Just missing Munro height by a few metres, Fuar Tholl is a distinctive mountain, particularly when viewed from Loch Carron, its summit giving just a hint of the hidden cliffs on its northern face.

Fuar Tholl stands at the head of Strath Carron, but only shows its more interesting side to those who venture into Coire Lair.

The most direct route up Fuar Tholl is from Loch Dughaill in Strath Carron, but this is a fairly tedious approach with no paths to follow.

A more enjoyable route is to take a there-and-back detour from the Beinn Liath Mhor - Sgorr Ruadh circuit which starts from Achnashellach.

Aiming up the Coulin Forest Munros from Achnashellach makes for a rugged yet fabulous circular route. Fuar Tholl can be included in the itinerary without too much additional effort, or the route extended over to Maol Chean-dearg.
