Guarding the eastern approaches to the Rough Bounds of Knoydart, Garbh Chioch Mhor is a rugged mountain with a ridge crest stretching from Sgurr na Ciche to Sgurr nan Coireachan.

Most likely to be bagged on route from Sgurr na Ciche to Sgurr nan Coireachan, route possibilities to Garbh Chioch Mhor and its neighbouring Munros are numerous. Once on the mountain's undulating crest, navigation is made straightforward over its entire length by following an old wall with occasional iron posts.

Probably the most popular is from Glen Dessarry, where a forest track gets close to Garbh Chioch Mhor. There is a bit of scrambling involved while heading up a gully to reach the bealach north-west of Garbh Chioch Mhor from where most hillwalkers will opt for a ridge traverse from Sgurr na Ciche to Sgurr nan Coireachan.

An epic challenge traversing the peaks and ridges of the Rough Bounds of Knoydart while hiking a circular route around Loch Quoich makes for a long day - or two if you fancy a bivvi !
