In the rugged landscape east of Loch Etive and north of Glen Kinglass, Glas Bheinn Mhòr stands on the ridge running from Ben Starav to Stob Coir' an Albannaich. Seen from Glen Etive, Glas Bheinn Mhòr appears symetrical as it overlooks burns and waterfalls travelling down the River Etive below.

There are many possible route choices when planning hiking up Glas Bheinn Mhor, with most options beginning with a sea-level start from the head of Loch Etive. Alternatively, an approach could be made from Victoria Bridge by Loch Tulla to the east.
