Càrn Dearg is the highest point on a series of grass-covered hills and lumps that overlook the eastern sides of Glen Roy.
Being separated from the other hills surrounding Glen Roy, Càrn Dearg is most likely to be hiked on its own. The most direct routes to the summit begin from near Brae Roy Lodge and strike up the hill's grass-covered north-west facing slopes that surround Coire na Reinich.
