Maol Chinn-dearg sits prominently in the middle of the South Glen Shiel Ridge, rising from three distinct shoulders, with an intriguing lochan resting at the top of a landslip on the eastern side of its northern spur.
Many hillwalkers choose to bag this Munro as part of a South Glen Shiel Ridge traverse. With a stalker's path leading directly from the roadside over Druim Coire nan Eirecheanach, Maol Chinn-dearg also offers a convenient start for a shorter route on the ridge's eastern section.
