Just north of the Cairngorm plateau, Meall a’ Bhuachaille rises above Glenmore Forest and Loch Morlich. Along with its neighbouring tops, it forms a graceful ridge offering expansive views across the Cairngorms. At its foot sit the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre and Glenmore Lodge, Scotland’s national outdoor training centre. Despite its modest height, this Corbett is one of the area’s most accessible and rewarding climbs, combining forest trails, open ridges, and nearby lochans.
The simplest ascent begins from Loch Morlich, following a well-made path directly to the summit, but many walkers extend the outing via Ryvoan Bothy and the beautiful Green Lochan, An Lochan Uaine. A longer traverse of the ridge over Creagan Gorm and Craiggowrie makes for a superb circuit, and this route also forms the course of the Meall a’ Bhuachaille hill race held each October.
