Standing prominently above Loch a’ Chroisg, Meall a’ Chaorainn is a broad, grassy and heather-covered hill with a spacious summit plateau, where a small cairn marks the highest point.

Hillwalkers would most likely reach Meall a’ Chaorainn as a detour from a Fionn Bheinn route, starting near a small hydro dam on the Allt Achadh na Sine. The hill is connected to Fionn Bheinn by a wide, waterlogged bealach scarred with peat hags, making the traverse a distinctly boggy experience.
