Meall an Fheur Loch

Meall an Fheur Loch is a little Graham/Fiona hill standing above the northern end of Loch Merkland in the wild lands between Assynt and Reay. Aptly named 'hill of the grassy loch', the hill rises above a small loch and is surrounded by broad grassy terrain.

The hill itself is rather unassuming in appearance, with a wide and fairly flat summit plateau marked by a small cairn. Slopes are mainly grass-covered with scattered rocks, though the eastern side drops more steeply towards the glens below.

Meall an Fheur Loch is perhaps best appreciated from neighbouring higher ground, appearing at its finest when viewed from nearby Meallan a' Chuail to the south-west or from A' Ghlaise to the north.

Meall an Fheur Loch is most naturally climbed in combination with neighbouring hills, particularly the Corbett Beinn Leòid and its neighbouring Graham/Fiona Meallan a' Chuail. The most straightforward approach begins from near the northern end of Loch Merkland, where a stalker's path provides useful access into the wild ground.
