Meall nan Caorach is a rounded, mainly grassy hill rising south-east of Amulree and west of Little Glen Shee. To the south-west stands neighbouring Meall Reamhar, separated from it by a surprisingly deep col.
From Amulree, an approach can be made initially following the route towards Harrietfield in Glen Almond, perhaps climbing over Creag Gorm before crossing rougher, heather-clad ground to Meall nan Caorach's summit, marked by a trig point.
The track continues through to Harrietfield, giving another possible approach from Glen Almond, though the route from Amulree is significantly shorter. Meall nan Caorach and Meall Reamhar make a natural pairing, with fencelines providing useful guidance across the higher ground and between the two summits.
