Rising between the River Don and the River Gairn, Mona Gowan is a heather-clad hill set among grassy glens. One of the many undulating hills spreading out from Morven, it is crossed by fences with several estate tracks leading toward its summit.

Mona Gowan can be reached via several estate tracks, with a particularly fine route starting from Glen Fenzie. This approach leads to the remote Morven Lodge and allows for a scenic circular walk that can also include the higher summit of Morven. As elevation is gained, paths become fainter amid heather, but navigation is made easier by following fence lines. Along the way, small rocky cols are crossed along the crest and old ruins scattered in the glens, adding interest to the journey.
