As a long spur from the main ridge of Beinn Eighe, Ruadh-stac more can be seen as whale-back in shape, its western faces formed of scree and its north and eastern slopes guarded by many crags.
The most popular route to Ruadh-stac Mor begins on a path working its way from Glen Torridon through Coire Dubh Mor below the south-western slopes of Beinn Eighe. This route leads to Coire Mhic Fhearchair with its stunning Triple Buttress, standing to the north of which is Ruadh-stac Mor.
Most hillwalkers will opt to continue further from Ruadh-stac Mor along Beinn's bouldery crests, with many options for route choice, including taking in the other Munro summit on Beinn Eighe, Spidean Coire nan Clach or detouring to the 'Black Carls' at the eastern end of the mountain's crests.
