Sgùrr a' Gharaidh

Sgùrr a' Gharaidh and its subsidiary top Glas Bheinn are the highest points on a rugged, lochan-pitted landscape rising above the heads of Loch Carron and Loch Kishorn. In contrast to the southern side, steeper ground falls away northwards from these high points.

Sgùrr a' Gharaidh can be approached from Coille Dhubh to the north, or from the head of Loch Carron. Possibly the most pleasant approach begins from the high point on the A896 above Lochcarron, initially following a decent track before rough, heathery ground is met. There is little in the way of paths, with numerous lochans and some complex terrain along the way.

Views from the summits are extensive. From Sgùrr a' Gharaidh, the Applecross Corbetts dominate to the west, while beyond them the jagged skyline of Skye's Cuillin is clearly visible in clear conditions. On the way to Glas Bheinn, the peaks of Beinn Damh and the Coulin forest are seen to good effect, while the view from the only trig point on the route looks over the head of Loch Carron.
