Many hillwalkers tackle this Munro as part of a traverse along the South Glen Shiel Ridge. This traverse can be split into shorter segments, with Sgùrr an Lochain lying in the ridge's western section, with the easiest access from Glen Shiel via its neighbouring peak, Creag nan Damh.
