Càrn nan Gobhar is the most northerly Munro of the Strathfarrar group, its summit crest stretching from south-west to north-east. The ridge is mostly grassy but becomes bouldery towards its far north-eastern end.
From Sgùrr a’ Choire Ghlais, the ridge continues north-east to Càrn nan Gobhar. The traverse is straightforward, with mostly grassy slopes leading to the summit cairn, before the descent eastwards towards the final Munro, Sgùrr na Ruaidh.
An alternative possibility is to approach Càrn nan Gobhar from Strathconon, using the fine estate tracks that lead to the mountain's foot in Glen Orrin - though this does leave the other Strathfarrar Munros rather awkwardly placed for a complete traverse.
