Tinto Hill is an isolated peak sitting in South Lanarkshire overlooking the River Clyde. From most directions it is conical in shape, though its main crest stretches over 4km from west to east.

Routes approach Tinto's summit from various directions with the route from the north being by far the most popular and also used for the line of the Tinto Hill Race.

If you prefer a more quiet route with fair lack of boot traffic, then a fine alternative to Tinto is to aim up from Wiston to the south.
