Geal-charn is the most northerly Munro in the group of hills west of Drumochter Pass, its summit scraping in at a shade over Munro-height.

The expanse of Geal-charn's wide summit plateau is surrounded by heather-clad slopes. A small group of cairns sits at the eastern end of this plateau overlooking Drumochter Pass below.

With the lowest point in the range being 730m, it makes sense to include Geal-charn in a day Munro-bagging with A'Mharconaich, Beinn Udlamain, Sgairneach Mhor and the Corbett, The Sow of Atholl.

Heading up Geal-charn from Balsporran is a soggy affair on a well defined path, but higher up terrain is a delight underfoot with most of the route following tracks, paths and fence-posts. Geal-charn and the other Munros in this group all have different characters and afford good views over Loch Ericht to the Ben Alder range and beyond.

Bags of character and great views, this is a fine high-level route on which to quickly bag the 4 Munros west of the Pass of Drumochter, possibly adding in the Corbett peak of the Sow of Atholl for good measure.
