Stob Daimh lies at the eastern end of the Cruachan Horseshoe. Though lower than Ben Cruachan, its position above Cruachan Reservoir gives magnificent views back along the ridge and eastwards into Glen Noe. The mountain is less craggy than its neighbour but forms an elegant part of the circuit, with grassy slopes and airy connecting ridges.

Most walkers start from the roadside by the Cruachan car park, climbing steeply to the dam to then gain the ridge. The ridge between Ben Cruachan and Stob Daimh is walkable for most of the way, bar a litte 'bad step' that can be negotiated directly or by-passed by losing a little height.

Instead of hiking around the peaks on the Cruachan Horsehoe, after bagging the Munro peaks, the route can be extended over to the nearby peaks of Beinn a' Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich.
