Sgùrr Fiona is the lower of An Teallach’s two Munro summits, instantly recognisable as a sharp, rocky pyramid. It rises at the junction of three ridges: to the south-east the mountain’s main ridge continues over the dramatic pinnacle of Lord Berkeley’s Seat; to the north-east a narrow crest links directly to the higher Bidein a’ Ghlas Thuill; while to the west a broad shoulder runs out across a high col towards the minor top of Sgùrr Creag an Eich.
The most straightforward approach is from Dundonnell, following a well-worn path south-west through Coir’ a’ Mhuilinn over heather and stony ground to reach Bidein a’ Ghlas Thuill, before a short clamber over sandstone slabs leads on to Sgùrr Fiona.
For a more committing outing, you can extend the day by following the connecting ridges to nearby tops and tackling An Teallach’s classic ridge traverse. This thrilling route involves sustained scrambling and significant exposure, though a bypass path avoids the most difficult sections. The traverse is usually best tackled clockwise, putting the crux at Corrag Bhuidhe into ascent.
Another alternative is to continue west from Sgùrr Fiona along the broad ridge towards Sgùrr Creag an Eich, descending from the col into the remote wilds of Fisherfield, passing a spectacular gorge and waterfall on the way.
