A' Mhaighdean is often described as the most remote Munro. Nestled in the heart of the rugged Letterewe Forest, the mountain towers above the dramatic cliffs of Coire Breac, looking down on the dark waters of Dubh Loch. The sense of isolation here is profound, and the summit rewards with one of the finest panoramic views in the Highlands - taking in Fisherfield, An Teallach, and across to the west coast and the sea.

Reaching A' Mhaighdean requires commitment. It can be approached from several directions: Kinlochewe to the south, Poolewe to the northwest, Corrie Hallie to the northeast. Each approach includes long stretches on rough or boggy tracks, often several hours of walking before reaching the foot of the mountain. Because of the distance involved, many hillwalkers plan a two-day trip, either wild camping or staying in a bothy, perhaps while also bagging other summits.
