Beinn a' Chaisgein Mòr stands in a very remote part of the Fisherfield and Letterewe wilderness. The bulk of this mountain is a large, flat, grass-covered expanse, with its most interesting features lying on its southern aspects, where cliffs rise directly above Dubh Loch and the lonely buildings of Carnmore.
Due to its remote setting, a fair bit of effort is needed to reach the base of Beinn a' Chaisgein Mòr. One route, following a decent track and path, travels from Poolewe to the west, and another approaches from Corrie Hallie to the east. Although equidistant, and with a bike usable for part of the way on either of these routes, the Poolewe approach involves less ascent and allows a bike to reach nearer the foot of Beinn a' Chaisgein Mòr.
