Ben More is the only Munro on the Isle of Mull, standing prominently on the peninsula between Loch na Keal and Loch Scridain. Its broad, grassy lower slopes rise steadily before steepening onto scree and a bouldery summit, from where three ridges extend north-west, east and south.

The eastern ridge is the finest, narrowing as it curves out over A' Chioch towards Beinn Fhada, giving a more interesting and varied approach to the summit.

Most walkers ascend Ben More by the so-called 'tourist route' from Dhiseig on the shores of Loch na Keal. This provides a direct and straightforward line to the summit, following a well-defined path with minimal navigational challenge, and is particularly popular in summer.

However, a more rewarding day is had by extending the outing along the eastern ridge, taking in A' Chioch and optionally the nearby Graham of Beinn Fhada. Here the terrain becomes rougher and more varied, with sections of straightforward scrambling and a little exposure, particularly around A' Chioch, though no technical difficulties are encountered in good conditions.

Reaching Mull itself adds to the sense of occasion - access requires a ferry crossing from the mainland, lending any ascent of Ben More a slightly more remote and memorable feel. From the summit, views are extensive in all directions, stretching across the Inner Hebrides and to the mountains of the mainland beyond.
