Standing proudly at 992m, Sgurr Alasdair is the highest mountain on Skye and a striking feature of the Black Cuillin range. Alongside its slightly lower neighbour, Sgurr Thearlaich, from which it is separated by the dramatic Great Stone Chute, the pair form one of the most iconic and serrated profiles in the Cuillin skyline.

The most accessible route begins from Glenbrittle, from where well-trodden paths lead into Coire Lagan, beneath towering cliffs, with Sgurr Alasdair looming overhead. A steep and often loose ascent up the Great Stone Chute leads to the col between Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr Thearlaich. From here, a relatively straightforward, but quite exposed, scramble up the mountain's eastern ridge reaches its summit.

Sgurr Alasdair can also be climbed from the west via Sgurr Sgumain, or from the southeast via Sgurr Dubh an Da Bheinn. These approaches involve more technical terrain, with sections of exposed scrambling and optional climbing, depending on route choice and confidence.

To the north lie Sgurr Mhic Choinnich and Sgurr Dearg, both accessible from Sgurr Alasdair for confident and competent scramblers. The route continues over Sgurr Thearlaich, then along a series of exposed crests and ledges - a thrilling but committing continuation requiring a good head for heights and solid route-finding skills.
