Sgùrr a' Ghreadaidh rises to 973m, making it one of the highest summits in the Black Cuillin - exceeded in height only by Sgùrr Alasdair and the Inaccessible Pinnacle. Located in the Central Cuillin, this peak offers a classic Skye mountaineering experience with spectacular ridgeline scenery.
The most popular and straightforward ascent begins from Glen Brittle, following the path up Coire a' Ghreadaidh to the prominent notch of An Dorus ("The Door"). From here, a relatively easy but exposed scramble leads up the northern ridge of Sgùrr a' Ghreadaidh, passing the top of the Eag Dubh ("Black Notch") and skirting around 'The Wart', a distinctive overhanging rock feature.
Many climbers combine Sgùrr a' Ghreadaidh with its neighbour, Sgùrr a' Mhadaidh, as part of a single ridge route. For experienced scramblers or mountaineers, a more technical alternative involves traversing from the south-west over Sgùrr Thormaid and the jagged 'Three Teeth', starting from Sgùrr a' Banachdich. This demanding approach requires negotiating a narrow southern top before reaching the true summit.
