Seen from the A82 as it passes Loch Lochy in the Great Glen, Sron a'Choire Ghairbh's slopes rise steeply above cultivated forests, though its summit isn't actually visible from the roadside.
Most hillwalkers will approach Sron a' Choire Ghairbh from Kilfinnan near Laggan Locks, most likely bagging Meall na Teanga on the same hike and possibly taking in the nearby Corbett of Ben Tee. If not intending to head up Ben Tee, a fine alternative route that bags Sron a' Choire Ghairbh along with Meall na Teanga begins from the Mile Dorcha, the short stretch of wooded land between the heads of Loch Garry and Loch Arkaig.
