Beinn na Caillich rises at the northern tip of the Knoydart peninsula, overshadowed by the great bulk of Ladhar Bheinn. Though often overlooked, its isolated position rewards with striking panoramas: north-east across Loch Hourn to Beinn Sgritheall, and west over the Sound of Sleat to the peaks of Skye. Rugged and remote, this is a fine hill to climb in its own right.
From Inverie, Knoydart’s main village, a forestry track leads northwards before giving way to open moor, leaving around 4 km of rough heather and grassy slopes to the summit. A tougher alternative starts at Barrisdale Bay, with no path through very rough ground. Although linked to Ladhar Bheinn by a high col, the connecting ridges are steep and rocky, making Beinn na Caillich best enjoyed as a separate outing.
