Standing above the head of Glen Dessarry, Sgùrr nan Coireachan is a rugged mountain with four shoulders stretching out from its summit. Two of the shoulders lie on the ridge-line from Sgùrr na Cìche to Sgùrr Mor, another drops to Loch Cuaich and the fourth descends steeply to Glen Dessarry to the south.

Most likely to be bagged on a route also taking in Sgùrr na Cìche and Garbh Chìoch Mhor, route possibilities to Sgùrr nan Coireachan and its neighbouring Munros are numerous. Once on the mountain's undulating crest, navigation is made straightforward over its main crest by following an old wall and old iron posts.

Probably the most popular route is through Glen Dessarry on a forest track which gets close to the foot of Sgùrr nan Coireachan, from where a steep climb up a grassy slope leads direct to the summit and the ridge onwards to Garbh Chìoch Mhòr and Sgùrr na Cìche.

An epic challenge traversing the peaks and ridges of the Rough Bounds of Knoydart while hiking a circular route around Loch Quoich makes for a long day - or two if you fancy a bivvi !
