Ben Stack is a distinctive and solitary hill in the northwest Highlands, its profile changing dramatically with the viewpoint. From the west it rises sharply in a cone-like shape above moorland scattered with lochans, often compared to Schiehallion. From the north it looks more whale-backed, its steep slopes climbing above Loch Stack and a line of cliffs. From the east a gentler grassy slope leads up from Loch More. Though modest in height, the summit—with two cairns and a small mast—offers expansive views across Arkle, Foinaven, and the wild landscapes of the far northwest.
There are two main route options for Ben Stack. From the west: a steep, faint path that twists and turns up the nose of the hill, picking through the steepest ground. From the east: a much gentler ascent up broad grassy slopes rising from Loch More.
