Meall Buidhe is a rugged and isolated Munro rising above the wild Knoydart peninsula, around 8km east of Inverie — a village reached only by boat from Mallaig or by a long walk-in. Its summit sits among a complex of ridges and corries, and the hill is often paired with neighbouring Luinne Bheinn or linked into bigger Knoydart traverses. Despite its remoteness, estate tracks from Inverie make it one of the more accessible of Knoydart’s mountains.
The easiest approach begins from Inverie, where estate tracks lead to Glen Meadail or Gleann an Dubh-Lochain. From Glen Meadail, rougher ground rises onto Meall Buidhe’s summit ridge and allows a circuit with Beinn Bhuidhe to the south. From Gleann an Dubh-Lochain, the hill is more often linked with Luinne Bheinn in a longer round that can continue over Ladhar Bheinn and Sgurr Coire Choinnichean. Alternative approaches arrive from Sourlies Bothy to the south or Barrisdale Bay to the north, though these make for longer, more challenging expeditions across the rugged heart of Knoydart.
